Profiles not sticky

Post by brahman »

Hi Igor,

when I make a profile and select it, it doesn't stay on.

Neither after restart, nor immediately when I continue working.

Regards,

B.

What do you mean? It's not saved, or once you select, it's reset to default on new comparison?

In fresh update I have modified it so if you select profile manually (from menu or by cmdline), it will remain until restart. But I'm not yet sure if this is expected behaviour.

When I select a profile, close the options dialog, then open it again, then I don't have my profile selected any longer. :(

The way I would expect profiles to behave is this: I select or make and select a profile and it stays active at least for the entire session (and stays selected in options for control purposes).

One should be able to make it permanently selected for all following sessions via checkbox in options (make the "Manage" button smaller, move the whole profile line flush to the left, add a checkbox or on/off "Permanent" or "Always" button to the right of manage button).

Another point is that you may want to show the user somewhere in the interface which profile is active. Bottom left corner may be a possibility.

Even cooler would be a way to select the profile temporarily right there from a drop-down box. Then you could do away with the "Permanent" checkbox and solve it like this: Profile selected in options: Permanent, profile selected in interface: session only.

That is how it would make sense to me :).

Hi Igor,

I think it would look better and be more practical if you renamed "Default" to "Default Profile". Then you could do away with "Profile:" in front of the new toolbar button (but at least make it smaller please, because it takes a lot of precious toolbar real estate).

That said though I think it would be better to have the dropdown in the bottom info bar next to "Source only".

Still the selection does not seem sticky. Probably this whole profile thingy still needs some refinement and conceptual work.

Kind regards,

Brahman

You are right about refinement - I just hope that making it public will reveal problems\ideas with it's usage.
Default profile in options is now currently selected.
