Vista Start Menu broken due to Compare It's Context Menu Cls

Post by garyamundson »

Some time after installing Compare It 4 on my Vista Ultimate SP1 machine I started to notice that various programs in my start menu wouldn't launch from there. After some web research I found this forum entry and did as it suggested using "shexview" (which is available from this link):
http://www.winmatrix.com/forums/index.p ... opic=14341

While using shexview I happened to disable the "CompareItContextMenu Class" and my Start Menu was fixed. Note I am able to recreate the "breaking" and "fixing" of the Start Menu simply by reenabling and disabling that class.

(BTW, I love this product!)

Same problem here. I Have Vista 64-bit and when "CompareItContextMenu" extension is enabled I cannot use any other shell extensions from Quick Start menu. For example, if I right-click Visual Studio 2008 and choose "Run as Administrator" - nothing gets executed.

There is also another affected area. When I right-click "Computer" and select "Properties", in the resulting "View Basic System Information" dialog I cannot click any of the links on the left sidebar, including "Device Manager".

I've disabled the extension using ShellExView- problems went away. Re-enabled it and the problems resumed. Here is the extension info I got from ShellExView:

CompareItContextMenu Class Yes Context Menu CompareItExt Module I111111111111111111111111110 CompareItExt Module Grig Software No No No No No No C:\Program Files (x86)\Compare It!\wincmpExt64.dll {398D6F03-7C65-4462-A173-95247F028785} 10/8/2008 1:28:17 AM 4/18/2009 11:45:52 AM No *, Directory, Drive A 118,272

Please fix the problem ;) Thanks.

Michael
