I'm using v3.8.6.1769 when comparing .xls files (Excel 97). They are being converted to/using UNIX TXT but are unrecognisable in the viewing panels.
I don't use CompareIt! very often and haven't had any problems with .xls files before but I seem to remember that they used to be WIN TXT before?
What can I do to 'see' the files?

I've just tried the 4beta version and the files converted OK and compared with differences (as expected). Thanks very much.
Some of the smaller account workbooks seemed OK but the newer larger workbooks caused problems. Had I changed a setting or was it something else?

No, none of your setings could affect this. I suspect problems in new version of excel conversion library.
