Compare xls files How to compare Excel files Word files comparison Other files support

Compare It! can now compare files of Microsoft Excel 97 (.xls files) and higher (including xlsx, xlsm files) by converting them to text format. You don't need to have MS Office/Excel installed - Compare It! converts texts independently. Please note that only text is extracted, without formatting - so you will not see changes in formatting.

Multiple sheets are combined on single plain text page, trying to keep tabular structure.

To keep columns visually aligned, fixed font is automatically selected for converted xls files.

As with all converted files, you can not edit or merge .xls files - file comparison is read only and your abilities are limited to reviewing changes.

To view Excel files as plain text

Since viewing Excel files "as is" would not provide any readable information, you can not completely turn conversion feature off. However you can toggle convertor usage in menu View > View As > Text
